3 hour drive to Adelaide Beachfront Park - can't see the water but just a short walk away. Really nice park with all the gizmos for the kids including a pool. Got a nice spot with a tree just to one side of us. Amenities really good too. Another massive beach with the tide way, way out. There are sealions at the breakwall just lolling about in the water. You can get right up close to them and we went snorkelling around here one day and almost ran into them. The first day we came down we also saw dolphins but didn't have the camera with us. Did a run into Hahnsdorf a quaint German style town. Only one main street and unfortunately a lot of the shops were closed on a Tuesday. Had an icecream and bought a coffee candle. Had lunch at Haus Restaurant - shared a German pizza. Called in at Beerenberg Farm and bought some strawberries and chickpea and pumpkin curry base which we later made with chicken and it was delicious. Went to the National Motor museum at Birdwood where Al was in his element - just about drooling. Here they showcased Holden Heroes 1948-2017 as well as heaps of other cars and motorbikes. Stopped at Mount Lofty but was very hazy with the rain but did see a couple of parrots and a small roo. Saw Malcom & Jills van so called in to say hi. Jill had broken her wrist missing a step out of the caravan. Went into Port Adelaide to check out the street art called Wonderwalls. Some lovely old heritage listed buildings here. Popped into the Lighthouse Wharf Hotel for refreshments. Checked out the dolphin sanctuary at Garden Island but didn't see any - thought we briefly saw one on our way out. Met up with Jan who we had met at Lichfield in Darwin - went to the Moseley Beach Club right on the beach - literally on the sand next to the jetty. Great to see him again he is so nice. Al had a steak sandwich and I had the chilli garlic squid which was delicious. Jan heading off to the Phillipines early March and hoping to get back into West Australia later on. Before meeting Jan we checked out Henley Beach which is just beautiful - all the sailing boats were out and there were wooden pelicans on the tops of poles scattered around. Went to Port Noarlunga where the Onkaparinga river meets the ocean. Stopped at a little cafe for coffee and a muffin before heading off to Glenelg to meet Jan. Checked out the time ball at old Semaphore which is raised at 12.57pm each day and dropped at 1pm. This was erected in 1875 to let ships at anchor know to set their chronometers. Drove to Adelaide to look at Rundle Mall. I thought it would be an indoor shopping centre but it is actually just one long street. Checked out some heritage buildings and Al got some good pics. Went for a drive to McLaren Vale. The main street only has a few shops on one side of the road. Got some nuts from Yummy Nuts and would have like to get some cheese but the shop was closed. McLaren Vale is a beautiful part of the country not a lot unlike the Hunter Valley with lots of wineries. Went to the d'Arenberg Cube, a really quirky place in a winery. Looks like a discombobulated Rubiks Cube. Five levels of weird art and the Salvadore Dali exhibition was on which was more weird sculptures, some priced at 3 million dollars. Had lunch at Pollys - I had a Vietnamese curry which was yummy and Al had the Rueben sandwich. The toilets here were amazing especially the mens. The urinals were in the shapes of Alice in Wonderland characters??? I did the wine tasting but not keen, not even the $105 a bottle one. Al tried the ports and got a bottle of tawny. Not very good weather for our last few days here so on out last day we called into The Big Shed Brewery. Al and I tried the Jetty Jumper then Al had the Kol Schisel and a limited edition beer.
