Four hour drive to Ocean View Caravan Park - saw some Sturt Desert Peas at side of road. Good site right on the beach - room for van, awning and car and astro turf for chairs. Amenities modern and clean. Paparazzi dogs on waterfront checking out staircase to the moon. Onslow was actually moved from Old Onslow after a cyclone which changed the tides and made the jetty impractical. Onslow played host to allied navy troops in WW11 and was bombed by the Japs who missed so no-one one hurt or killed. Visited the Groyne at Beadon Creek after walking along the boardwalk. Saw the old gaol where they still had the iron rungs in the floor to retain the Aboriginal prisoners. Not too much left of the ruins - they transported all of the timber and iron buildings, some by camel and left the brick buildings. Caught the sunrise through the Anzac memorial. Got to see the Cartoon tank after we couldn't get on the tour. 80m round, 25m across and 30foot high. German family moved in and the wife drew all these cartoon characters on the walls to amuse her kids. The drawings are amazing, the mother must have been an artist. The tank used to be a fuel tank for submarines and is now owned by Robert "Buster" McDonald. Is now used as a cyclone shelter for the locals when needed. Walked down to the salt jetty and then the Goods Shed Museum which was transported by camel from Old Onslow in 1925 and is now an historical building classified by the National Trust. It houses artefacts relating to the pioneering days and the cyclones which they reckon happen every 2 years here. One was over 200k's and actually wrecked the anemometer which recorded the wind speed. Finished our stay here with a drink at the Beach Resort.
