2 hour drive to Jurien Bay Tourist Park. Right on the beach and you can at least see the sand even though there is weed here too. No awning out again and unable to even sit outside cos of the bloody wind. Walked along waterfront on the Turquoise way walking trail - some beautiful houses but on small blocks with no garden - all house. Drove to Stockyard Gully Caves about an hours drive away. Just before the entrance to the 300 metre deep cave the bees have made their nests in the rocks. All you can hear is the drone of the bees and the honey is literally dripping down the walls - a huge chunk of honeycomb had fallen onto the rocks below. Cave was cool - pitch black - you needed a torch - not too scary for someone whose not a cave person. Did the Three Bays Walk stopping at Dynamite Bay, Anchorage Bay and South Bay. All beautiful bays with the only spoiler the wind again. WRACK on all the beached which they reckon retains the integrity of the beaches. Sandy Cape was just a beautiful spot. Turquoise water and white sandy beach. Perfect for snorkelling, weather permitting. Drove to the Pinnacles 10k south of Cervantes. An amazing landscape of thousands of ancient limestone pillars rising from the sands of the desert. A 4k drive around the pillars and normally we would have found this amazing if we hadn't already seen thousand of termite mounds which look just the same. Stopped at Lake Thetis to see the stromatolites which we had missed at Hamelin. They are microbial reefs and the longest living lifeforms on the planet. Then we drove into Cervantes to the Lobster Shack. We had the half lobster and creamy garlic prawns which was just mouth wateringly good. The shack is right on the water with lovely views. One of the highlights of our trip has to be our sea lion charter tour. Onto the catamaran at 7am at Julien Boat Harbour and straight into our wetsuits. A fast boatride 5k offshore to Essex Rocks where we were met by a couple of seals. They are so inquisitive and playful - an absolute joy to be able to swim with them. One got so close to Al he felt its whickers in his ear. The small one especially was very cheeky and tried to get on your back. They were spinning and twirling and jumping out of the water - such a pleasure to watch and be so close to them seeing their huge doe eyes peering into yours. Tea, coffee or hot chocolate on the trip back with lamingtons. Later we walked along the boardwalk in front of park and back along the beach. Watching Terminator Arnie when we heard the thunder rolling in about 11pm followed by heavy rain and hailstones - sounded worse than it was in the van.
