3 hour drive to Fremantle Village - thought it was on the beach but it isn't. Large park with room for van, awning and car. Amenities old but clean, hot & strong. Al bought a new battery or his drone at DJI shop in Westfield Carousel Centre. Bought a new camera at JB Hifi - a Nikon Coolpix P950. They checked out why my fitbit isn't syncing and they reckon it's my phone which is too old which is what I thought. Love Fremantle - all the old heritage buildings and shops, cafes and restaurants on the waterfront. Lots of bronze statues around. Went across to Rottnest Island arriving in Thompson Bay. Got on the hop-on, hop-off bus first stop being Parker Point. Walked down to Porpoise Bay then a guided walk to Little Salmon Bay where we finally got the opportunity to snorkel. Next stop West End and Cathedral Rocks to the seal viewing platform. About 12 seals lolling about in the water lying on their backs chilling out. Saw some dolphins on our walk to Fish Hook Bay where the water is just amazing. Had to check out Geordie Bay of course. There are 900 moorings around Rotto and there is a 10 year wait for one. Saw quite a few quokkas and got some selfies with them. Beer & wine at Samphire Hotel then a rocky boat ride back to Fremantle. Got the free blue cat to Freo markets. Not as big as we thought they would be but the produce was great, good quality and reasonably priced. Bought a big tub of strawberries for $4. Spent one day with Karen & John who we had met at Carnarvon. They have been in their house for almost 20 years but it looks new and is quite modern. A lovely courtyard and a small swimming pool. We had a lovely lunch then went for a drive to Kings Park and the Optus Stadium. There is a huge bridge called Matagarup which they have just opened up to climb and in the process of constructing a zipline. Spent a day doing touristy things. Visited the Shipwreck Museum which details all the wrecks around WA. Next was the Roundhouse which is the oldest building in WA and was used as a gaol from 1831 - 1886. It was then used as a lock up until 1900. Only one person was hanged here which unfortunately was a 15 year old boy who had committed murder in 1884. Maritime Museum was next which also took in the Brickwrecks made out of Lego. The museum showcases the voyages and vessels, artefacts and stories of their journeys. Little Ceatures brewery was our next stop for lunch. Shared a garlic prawn pizza. Perfectly located right on the waters edge. Checked out the statue of Bon Scott for Al. Spent another day visiting other sites starting at the Fremantle Prison where we did the True Crimes tour. Extremely interesting, our guide was very informative. The building is world heritage listed built in the 1850's and in use until 1931. All kinds of criminals were in here and the conditions were pitiful. Our guide had actually spoken to the Byrnes when she was 16 before they were convicted as serial killers. It's one of the largest surviving convict prisons in the world. Checked out Monument Hill then drove to the Rainbow Containers and walked along the waterfront where there were about 6 dolphins playing and rounding up baitfish in the Swan River. Went to East West Designs, a massive homewares store just a walk away. Bought a metal fish which will look good on the outside bench at home - it holds a candle. Had lunch with Craig & Debbie at the Breakwater Tavern at Hillarys. Checked out some beaches on the way - namely Port Beach which had recently suffered a shark attack, Cottesloe and Scarborough. This was part of the Sunset Coast Tourist drive.
