4 hour drive to Denham with fuel stop at Wooramel Roadhouse. The usual scenery of scrub on the way. Denham Seaside Caravan Park is across the road from the beach and we're on the upper level which gives us great views across the ocean but makes it more windy. Hadn't been able to put the awning out or sit outside for most of our stay. Denham is just a small town, if you could even call it that. It used to be a ramshackle town that grew around a pearlers camp. Had my birthday here and Al secretly got me a bracelet at Broome from Cygnet Bay - just beautiful and we went to the Waterfront Pub for dinner. Al had the beef and reef and I had the red emperor - the flavours were just beautiful. Drove to Francois Peron National Park and had to stop on the way to let a family of emus cross the road . The trip was a 60k drive on soft sand with lumps, bumps and corrugation. Even the firmer surface was full of potholes. Had to let the tyres down on the car. Checked out Little Lagoon, beautiful but windy. Drove to Skipjack Point - amazing views with red cliffs, turquoise water and white sand. Saw a few manta rays. Walked along the clifftop to Cape Peron where we saw two dolphins right on shore rounding up bait fish. Thought we saw a couple of dugongs. Checked out Nicholson Point - kite surfers are enjoying this windy weather. Went to Monkey Mia to see the dolphins being fed but none turned up. We had a swim and snorkel and sat on the beach for a while and just as we were getting ready to leave a mother dolphin and her calf and another dolphin cruised by right in front of us. On the way home we had to stop for an emu which was walking toward us in our lane on the road. I held the camera out to get photos and it just stared at us and kept walking. Then we saw another emu with three chicks - very cute. Shell Beach next on our list. No sand just beautiful white Hamelin cockle shells. Quite stunning against the turquoise water. Had to collect some shells to take home and put in a bottle and Al got some for his board he is going to make. Not sure if it is legal or not but the beach is 60k long and 10m deep in places -so don't think they will be missed. Called into Goulet Bluff and Al got some drone shots then Whalebone. We were up to our mid thighs in water and could see these creatures swimming around which turned out to be nervous sharks - they didn't come very close - they were quite skittish - but it was exciting to be in the water with sharks - better still harmless ones. On to Eagle Bluff - a 400 metre boardwalk above the cliffs and water. All we spotted were more sharks but the shoreline is just beautiful. Al had his photo taken in a very precarious natures window - I wasn't game. Had to pay a visit to the Shark Bay Hotel - the most western pub in Australia. Had a game of darts and Al just beat me 2 - 0 on doubles. Extended our stay here too as rain was predicted in Kalbarri. Went to Ocean Park Aquarium on a guided tour - very interesting. Saw all the fish we had seen snorkelling plus sea anemones, dory fish, sea snakes, puffer fish, angel fish, rays, flathead, a cobia, a weird venomous cow fish, lemon sharks, tiger shark and moray eels. Went back to Little Lagoon hoping for a snorkel but too windy so we just walked around it - about 40 mins. There was an emu in the water at Little Lagoon but by the time we got down there it had ran out.
