About a 2 and a half hour drive to Wintersun Caravan Park with a stop for fuel at Manilya. Park is surprisingly empty. Decent site with room for van, annex and car on a concrete slab with GRASS around us. Checked out the Fascine - very nice - park area with palm trees along the water and some very nice canal homes. About 160 sites at park with jumping pillow, playground and postage stamp pool. Found out when we went into Woolies that a 4yr old girl, Cleo Smith had gone missing at Quobba Blowholes campsite that morning - sadly 12 days later, on writing this, she has not been found. We went to blowholes the next day, 70k's away and when we got there the police had the road blocked off. We didn't get to see the blowholes while we were there. Went for a drive up the coast instead and saw some massive waves crashing on shore. May have missed blowholes but this was quite spectacular. Bumped into a man who had been at blowholes when little Cleo went missing and he told us that her sleeping bag had gone missing too and the zip of the tent was up - certainly looking like an abduction. Visited the space and technology museum - neither of us are space buffs but it was really quite interesting. Shows how Carnarvon was involved in the manned space programme and satellite communications industry. Saw the "sugar scoop" antenna used for the first tv broadcast from Australia to the BBC. Did the Apollo experience, getting inside a full sized capsule which shakes and rattles. Buzz the cat was in the souvenir shop, a rescue cat, which is the most placid cat I have ever come across. Drove past Town Beach to Pelican Point but not much to see. Went to One Mile Jetty but it was closed for repairs as was the lighthouse cottage. So windy here - my thongs blew away and we decided to stay an extra day as it was too windy to tow the van.
