Got here early to get a spot but we didn't have a problem anyway. Nice shady spot. Went to checked out the hot springs but took the wrong turn and ended up at a sign that said we were on Aboriginal land and needed a permit - whoops. Got on the right track but when we got there there must have been a hundred people. We did 2 laps down the stream with our floaties. No TV reception here and Telstra box isn't working so watched a movie on the laptop - too many mozzies to sit outside. Got to springs early the next morning to beat the crowds - only about a dozen there. Al washed car in the wash bay and I washed doona to get the red dust off. Drove to Mataranka Homestead to check out the whippy man but he's not on tonight. Saw the old homestead from We of the Never Never. Did Mataranka thermal pool - man made - decent size but still lots of people there. Walked 1.2k to Stevies Hole named after a tour guide but not allowed to swim there - thought we saw croc marks on sandbank - but we did go in the shallows and threw water over ourselves to cool off. Passed Rainbow Springs but not allowed in here, probably because it is deep and would be difficult to get out of. Nex day we took the snorkel and goggles. Not a pretty sight down there, no colour and bits of algae and stuff floating around in the water and on the surface - good for the ecosystem apparently. Filled up with fuel for tomorrow and Al got a croc shaped stubby holder. Went to Nathan "whippy" Griggs show at the homestead. Started 9pm - possibly because it is too hot earlier on. He is amazing - 5 times Guinness world record holder. Cracks the whips to music, has fluoro ones and sets two whips on fire. He's not only incredibly good with the whips but a great entertainer too. If I were staying at the homestead I would be here every night to see him. The girl from SA that we had met at Mataranka thermal pool sat on the table next to us. Lots of kids here and they absolutely loved it. The show was free to watch but you could donate at the end of the show in his (big) hat that he just left to one side.
