2 hours to Rose Garden Caravan Park. A big park but not many vans. Amenities new and modern. Nice beaches but windy (for a change). There are nice little bays along the waterfront one with tiered gardens good for a sunny day. Checked out Denmark. First stop Waterfall Beach that has a small waterfall that runs year round. Madfish Bay next (my favourite) - beautiful turquoise water, white sand and calm water. Elephant Rocks next. Huge boulders on the beach and in the water. Greens Pool was next - also very nice and very popular. Checked out Ocean Beach which wasn't very appealing with dark brown water. Unfortunately almost everything in Denmark was closed as it was Sunday - we did get an ice cream though. Called into the surf place we had passed but it wasn't open yet but the owners Wayne and his wife still took us in and showed us around. An amazing place - they've done an awesome job. Very well designed. Al went back before we left and he had lots of boards up and Al got a t-shirt and stubby holder - called the Surf Gallery. Also checked out Muttonbird Island - another beautiful bay and beach. Walked around Albany. Al got his watch fixed and I got a flute vase from a woodwork shop for Cilla for Christmas. Some nice heritage buildings here too. Went passed Earl of Spencer Inn built in 1884 for photo. Paid a visit to the historic whaling station which Al found interesting. Went to Stony Hill lookout but could have been nicer without the 60k wind blowing. Checked out the Blowholes but tide coming in from direction so nothing happening here but the noise alone of the waves crashing was scary. The Gap and Natural Bridge next. The Gap has a 25m drop below which you can see through the bridge - if you care to look. The Natural Bridge was formed from massive chunks of granite worn away by the ocean and the weather. It will eventually collapse over time. Drove to Two Peoples Bay to check out Little Beach but 65k wind blowing again. It did look quite spectacular though watching the waves crashing up and over the rocks. Went to the Old Marron Farm for lunch but they only had marron in two of their meals - they're not an operating farm any more. We shared the double marron with chips and salad and it was very tasty. Checked out Gull Rock and Ledge Point - more amazing scenery. Also checked out some of the chainsaw sculptures on the way home. Got Al a new surfboard cover as his had fallen apart. Checked out Patrick Cottage, the oldest building in WA. So glad I was born in this era and not that one when you look at the kitchen and laundry in these places. The lady in the office was from Sunderland. Went to see the Brig Amity which was a replica of the ship that brought out the first lot of convicts from Sydney in 1826. Checked out the old Gaol - not a very pleasant place - housed a man at one stage who had murdered 2 wives and 4 children and buried them in cement. Drove past Dog Rock which vaguely resembled a dog and they had painted on a collar. Al did the Granite Skywalk in Porongurup National Park and said it probably would have been too steep and hard for me. He was quite chuffed that he'd done it. One night a huge chunk of tree fell across from us narrowly missing the van parked there. Checked out the markets but not too much going on here. Went to Padre White Lookout on Mt Clarence to see the war memorial. Also checked out the Apex lookout where a family of skinks had made their home under a large rock but were just basking in the sun - there were about 10 of them. Went to Princess Royal Fortress which had a lot of artillery on show and had a coffee at the Garrison cafe. Stopped at the Marine Drive lookout and Middleton Beach on the way home. Went to the boatshed markets but again not much here.
