Stopped at Penong on the way to Streaky Bay to check out the windmill museum. Has heaps of windmills here including the largest in Australia. Then went to check out another pink lake, Macdonnell Lake. Al got some great drone shots whilst I took over the driving. Definitely a pink lake but pity the sun wasn't out. On to the border quarantine check at Ceduna. Nothing to declare but they still checked out the fridge in the van. We had intended to have fish and chips from the oyster shack right next to border control but it was shut so we called into the general store at Smoky Bay. We got the battered whiting, potato scallops and chips - very yummy - nice crisp batter. Checked into Streaky Bay Foreshore Park. Room for van, awning and car although it's too windy to put out the awning. It's right on the bay with good amenities and playgrounds and bouncing pillow for the kiddies. Saw the world record great white shark replica at the shell service station which had been caught on a 24k rod and line in the 70's. Took 3 hours to tow back to the jetty. Had some great looking home made curries in here but didn't get to try them alas. Drove to Perlubie Landing and Eba Anchorage - both quaint little villages right on the water but off the grid with no power or water. Quite a few campers camped on the beach. Did the Cape Bauer Loop drive taking us through yet more scrub. Stopped at Halleys beach, a long beach stretching to Back Beach then on to Whistling Rocks & blowholes. Whistling rocks are actually a series of blowholes which whistle when the wind is blowing. No spray or whistling today but the roar of the waves was terrific. Got good pics of the rugged cliffs and seascape at Cape Bauer - not much holding the cliffs up in some spots unbeknown to Al. Checked out Murphys Haystacks on private property at Calca - giant pink granite pillars and boulders about 100,000 years old...some of the inselbergs apparently over 1500 million years old. Bit like the devils marbles just popping up in the middle of nowhere. Next to Point Labatt to the seal colony. A nice protected area surrounded by reef so the great whites can't get at them. Very laid back animals just lying on their backs and sides and snoozing on the rocks or shore. Spied a mother with two babies. Next we did the Westall Loop drive. Checked out Yanerbie and Speed Point. Absolutely blowing a gale - what's new? Smooth Pool and the tide was way out - had a salt foot bath which stung as I'd just scraped my big toe. Point Westall had such a rugged coastline. 110 steps down to the beach at Granites where huge boulders were scattered across the beach. High Cliff next then Tractor Beach which wasn't too impressive and no tractor on the beach. Pity that nearly all of the beached are covered in week because of the high winds we've had. Don't think we've sat outside the van once because of the wind.
