Four hour drive to Moonta Bay caravan park with a stop at Harrys along the way where we bought some humpalicious camel sausage, olive pate and pepperoni sticks. Considering this place is in the middle of nowhere is has a vast range of products. Got a nice spot in the park a couple of rows from the water. Very nice park with playground and jumping pillow for the kids and a waterpark right on the beachfront. Amenities ok - nothing special. Walked along jetty which has an enclosed swimming area. Tide way out here too. Walked around shops in Moonta but as its only a small place lots of the shops were closed cos it was Monday or by appointment. Checked out Hughes enginehouse built in 1863-65 for the mining company and Richmans enginehouse built 1869 using stones from Moonta beaches. Walked to the top of the 20m high tailing heap. Got shots of the methodist church and old sweet shop. We watched a storm rolling in and then it hit so fast Al had to throw a couple of ropes over the awning. A woman got hit by a flying table but she was ok. Drove to Kadina and got photos of some lovely old cottages. Had lunch at the Coopers Alehouse at Wallaroo on the jetty. Shared a plate of garfish, coconut crumbed prawns, calamari, chips and salad. Another town full of stone cottages - just gorgeous. On the way back got a photo of the two fat wombats and the Sir Richard Williams statue in Queen Square. Williams was born in Moonta in 1890 and was the first military trained pilot in the SA infantry regiment. Walked to Port Hughes jetty - 9.5k return. Some big houses along the waterfront but the erosion would be a worry for some of them as it looked like it could wash away at any time.
