Big 4 Howard Springs Holiday Park. Nice spacious corner site with shady trees. 2 swimming pools and a spa pool plus splashpark and jumping pillow for the kids. Amenities new and clean. Picked up 6.30 for our Litchfield Escapes tour. Guide is a young bloke called Jake who was born and raised in Howard Springs so knew a lot about the area and fauna and flora. First stop Adelaide River for the Jumping Croc tour. There was an adorable dingo pup here called Muttley which I could have taken home. As soon as we got on the boat we saw a croc. Cruised along the river and spied Brutus who is over 5 metres and Dominator over 6 metres. Thrilling to see them up this close almost touching the boat. Saw a few other females which are the ones that make the gutteral roaring sound. On to the national park stopping at the Cathedral termite mound. A few people had a taste - not us though - they reckon they tasted like peppercorns. On to Wangi Falls for our first swim which was great and then lunch which was a selection of meats, salads, fruit and rolls. Leftover are for the animals when we visit the Butterfly Farm. Next stop Florence Falls. Al took a photo of a couple of crocs - pink shoes on the rocks. Buley Rockhole next stop for our last swim. Party here celebrating a 31st birthday - very vocal with boombox blasting, empty goon bags and cans and bottles lying around. Butterfly Farm next where we had a beer and wine and saw some of the animals there being fed the scraps from our lunch. Met a nice German guy called Jan. On the Sunday went to Mindil Markets. Heaps of food stalls but not much of anything else. Bought a couple of prints by Ray Reeves of Kookaburras and Cockatoos and a singlet for Alan. It was great to see the ocean again. The lifeguard there said we could swim if we didn't mind the sharks and she only had lived in Newcastle and gone to Uni there. There was a bar here absolutely jam packed - no social distancing here. Back to the van for Chicken Laksa from the food van. Next day covid hit Darwin. We had been to Doctors Gully to feed the fish at Aquascene. They provided bread and there were literally hundreds of fish - mullet, catfish, barramundi, rays, garfish and milk fish. They swarmed around your legs to be fed and even took it out of your hand. You could touch them but not pick them up. Were at the wharf to see the virtual bombing of Darwin when an announcement came over the system to say that as of 12 o'clock Darwin was in a three day lockdown. We had an hour to get home. Got back to the park and the pools and spa had already been closed. Did nothing for the next couple of days. Peacocks here are so noisy - they sound like a foghorn before making that peacock noise. Had our covid vaccinations in Humpty Doo. Organised our G2G paperwork for crossing the WA border. Lockdown lifted. Al bought a new drone and I had my fitbit replaced at JB Hifi. Went back to Darwin waterfront to do the virtual bombing. I was not expecting this. I thought I would be on the ground experiencing the bombing not actually on the ships being bombed and in the aeroplanes. Very unnerving - my hands were sweaty and clinging to the seat. The plane I was in was hit and the pilot was falling through the sky to the ocean below me. I literally had my eyes closed half the time. Saying that it was extremely well done and would highly recommend it. Went to Lolas Pergola at Cullen Bay Marina for fish and chips and a burger. Checked out Fanny Bay - the turquoise colour of the water is just beautiful.
