2 hour drive to Fitzroy River Lodge. Bit suss about staying here because of poor reviews. 2 weeks before we got here 2 young girls were bashed and had their car stolen. The teenage aboriginals who stole it crashed the car and one was killed. The park itself is really nice - huge. Not too many here, think they may have been frightened off. The park has a bar and restaurant but they let the local fellas use them. They get breath tested before they're let in. They also have a nice pool which we tried out. Our Horizontal Falls tour was cancelled so we found someone else to do it with. No TV reception and no service on my phone. Did the Geikie Gorge tour - a one hour trip up the gorge. Spectacular rock formations, white at the bottom and a mix of pink, red, brown and black at the top. The white is from the rising water in the wet season. Saw a couple of fresh water crocs and some birdlife. The gorge has been carved by the Fitzroy River through part of an ancient limestone barrier reef which snaked across the Kimberley. Also saw a white belly sea eagle. Called into IGA on the way home - the security fencing around the shop is major league.
