Two nights at Devils Marbles. Were going to stay the 2nd night at Wyclife Wells but park was surrounded by razor wire and looked abandoned so we just checked out the UFO centre which was just the petrol station with old clippings on one wall and lots of UFO merchandise for sale. Devils Marbles is in the National Park and was only $4 per person per night. Gigantic granite boulders known as Karl Karlu. Site is right in front of the marbles which were just unbelievable balanced at odd angles on top of each other. Some were called cottage loaves and others cheese rings. John Ross, a Scottish/Australian explorer, named them saying it was the devils country and he'd even emptied his bag of marbles around the place. They were formed from an upsurge of molten rock that cooled and became solid beneath a layer of sandstone. The solidifying granite caused vertical and horizontal fractures creating rectangular blocks and over time water infiltrated the cracks breaking down the sandstone and then the granite. A great place for a stopover - well worth seeing
